The Hessian was a mercenary sent by German princes during the Revolutionary War.   He is also known as the Headless Horseman, and is the main later secondary antagonist of the 1999 horror fantasy film Sleepy Hollow.

He is portrayed in the movie by Ray Park (Headless) and Christopher Walken (with head on).

AppearanceEdit

He is tall and quite lithe, possessing black and grey armor with a serpentine insignia on the front; he sports black gloves with a draconian insignia on the front and red lines on them.

He sports a pair of black calf length boots with spurs on the back and a waistcoat with a long cape at the back.

His head has mussed up, jet black hair, ghostly pale skin, dark makeup around his eyes, pale lips, blackened eyebrows and razor sharp pointed teeth. He filled these teeth down to sharp points to make himself more ferocious.

BioEdit

The Hessian is a bloodthirsty, treacherous, harsh, evil, hateful, emotionless, sinister, sneaky, hung, abrasive, nefarious, traitorous, hasty, egotistical, hot-headed, eager, abusive, devilish, loathsome, eccentric, shrewd, sadistic, heartless, obnoxious, ruthless, sinful, envious, malicious, aggressive, nasty undead mercenary that was sent by the British, unlike the other soldiers that came from money-he came for the love of carnage and gore.

He rode his black steed Daredevil into the night and slashed off the heads of his victims. Even though he is generally percieved as being a bloodthirsty killer, he did spare the lives of two young girls - one of which being the future Lady Van Tassell.

Lady Van Tassell revealed that she made a pact with the devil in order to bring the Hessian back to life,  under the control of Lady Van Tassell -  the Hessian killed off Brom Bones and a lot of other innocent bystanders.

Once the Hessian reclaimed his missing skull, his head slowly grew back in the place of the stump, breaking the curse and he took Lady Van Tassell and gave her one last kiss, biting into her mouth in the process before the tree of the dead opened up and he was taken back home.

NOTES:

  • This is the only non-speaking role that Christopher Walken has played in a film.
  • Prior to this, Walken's character in The Dead Zone is seen reading from the original book.
  • The Hessian does not speak, he growls and roars ferociously.  Although some fanfictions depict him as being able to talk.
