- I never had dreams. Only nightmares -
Personality and appearanceEdit
Johanna has long, wavy blonde hair, porcelain skin, and a small, dainty mouth, giving her a doll-like appearance. She's extremely fair and lovely, like her mother, but at the same time very austere and severe; she has a lot of dresses, but she seems to prefer outfits featuring the color blue. Thanks to her wealthy adoptive father she wears precious jewels, like the pearl necklace at the beginning of the film. Disguised as a boy, Johanna wears a brown hat which covers her beautiful hair and a sailor coat.
Sweeney Todd's daughter is serious and unhappy because of her imprisonment; she hates the Judge, but at the same time, she is afraid of him and of his court. Johanna shows signs of mental illness (the audience can infer this at the ending, when she talks about ghosts to a worried Anthony). It is uncertain whether she truly reciprocates the young sailor’s feelings towards her, as it is a possibly that Johanna only used him to escape from the Judge by attracting him with her beauty and her voice).
Johanna shares many similarities with Katrina Van Tassel in terms of physical characteristics, such as pale skin, fair blonde hair and a mysterious attitude).
- She's based on the character with the same name from the musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
